Summary: Saigon Economic Times talks with Nguyen Tien Phong - UNDP expert on poverty on the existing gap between the rich and the poor and its policy implications. According to Mr. Phong, inequalities in Viet Nam are growing fast, especially between the richest and the poorest groups. It is the widening gap in average household income between the 20% richest and the 20% poorest groups (9.24 times in 2010 from 8.34 times in 2006) that has caused an increase in the Gini coefficient (which measures disparities in social income) - from 0.42 in 2004 to 0.43 in 2010.
