DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVE

The overall objective of this project is to promote greater environmental protection in Vietnam through influencing the values, attitudes and behaviors of school children toward the environment. This will be accomplished by enhancing the ability of the Government of Vietnam to deliver learner-centered, problem-solving, cross-curricular education for the environment to primary and secondary school children. This "education for sustainability" ha already been incorporated into a National Policy Statement and Implementation Strategy for Environmental Education and elaborated in teacher training guidelines and materials under Phase 1. Such concepts will be consolidated and strengthened through awareness raising, consensus-building and capacity building in the environment and education systems at all levels in Vietnam. This will ensure that concerned agencies have the ability to deliver environmental education as integral to all their activities, thus ensuring that it can ultimately be sustained within these systems.
