This paper – a companion paper to ‘Getting to work’ by Ian Coxhead, Diep Phan, Dinh Vu Trang Ngan and Kim N. B. Ninh - explores issues related to the modernization of Viet Nam’s agricultural sector and the development of the country’s rural economy by analysing international experience and practices in: (i) promoting higher productivity and competitiveness in the agriculture sector; (ii) stimulating rural economic development; and (iii) providing concrete recommendations on actions that can be taken to accelerate agricultural and rural development in the period to 2020.
